本映像作品は、2018年度及び2019年度に開催されたGAP専攻のグローバルアート共同プロジェクトの記録映像です。通称、「ユニットプログラム」と呼ばれる本プロジェクトは、 パリ国立高等美術学校（BAP）やロンドン芸術大学セントラル・セント・マーチンズ校（CSM）と連携して開催されるカリキュラムで、各学校の教員と学生が国や大学の枠組みを超えて「ユニット」を組み、 各年度のテーマに合わせて共同でプログラムを開発していくのが最大の特徴です。 ユニットのこうした共同作業の中で生まれる経験は、単なる交流では終わりません。様々な文化や価値観がぶつかり合い、何が正解で、何が常識かが分からなくなる。ここはある種の無法地帯であり、外から観察したとすれば、ひどく曖昧で混沌とした世界に見えるかもしれません。そんなカオスの中で参加者たちは、新しく何かを掴んだり、自分を再発見をしたり。。。頼もしく成長していきます。しかしまた、ここで生まれる様々な体験を、言葉に落とし込むことは非常に難しい。今回の展示は、二人の映像作家が捉えた様々な瞬間を通して、こうした体験を紹介し、共有しようという試みです。
なお、今回展示される映像作品は、BAPとの共同プロジェクトであるパリユニットの記録映像となります。パリユニットは、これまで「身体」「実験」「サウンド」などをテーマにプログラムを組んできました。また、プログラムの共通タイトルである《ART AS EXPERIMENT（アートは実験である）》には、「芸術とは実験であり、実験の場として最も有効な場所が、学校である」という意味が込められています。コロナ禍において行われた2020年度のユニットプログラム*は、オンラインでの開催となり、まさにこの「実験の場」としての学校の意義が問われた年でもありました。最後に行われた学生によるオンラインでの成果発表は、普段とは違う難しい環境の中でも、アイデアを出し合い、共同しながら参加した学生が創り上げた、新しい形や様々な奇跡的瞬間を目撃することになりました。こちらの記録も併せて以下のリンクよりぜひご覧ください。

The video works showcased in this exhibition are documentation of GAP's Global Art Joint Project for the 2018 and 2019 academic years. An international joint curriculum project organized in collaboration with the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris (BAP) and Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (CSM), this project is often referred to as the ‘Unit Program,’ as faculty members and students from each school form a ‘unit,’ an educational body transgressing national borders and institutions, a distinguishing feature of the program, to work together to develop a program tailored to each year’s theme. What is experienced inside this collaborative horizon goes beyond a mere exchange. What one had known as the ‘norm’ or ‘ordinary’ is obscured at this crossing point where different cultures and values meet. No determining rules prevail here. At times, such space may appear incredibly ambiguous and chaotic, if observed from the outside. However, inside this turmoil, students evolve; progressing with concrete steps; to gradually grasp something new or rediscover themselves. Yet, the various experiences emerging in this space are extremely difficult to describe in words. This exhibition thus is an attempt to introduce and share these experiences through the various moments captured by the two film artists.
The two video works introduced in this exhibition are footages from Paris Unit, the joint project with BAP. For the past years, Paris Unit has organized workshops and classes around the themes of ‘body,’ ‘experiment,’ and ‘sound’. The common title of the program, ’ART AS EXPERIMENT,’ holds in it our vision that ‘Art is an experiment and schools are the most effective sites for such experimentation.” This year, due to the global pandemic, the Unit Program* went virtual, which all the more marked the need for schools to serve as sites for ‘experimentation.’ The final presentation, which was also held online, witnessed new forms and various miraculous moments created by the students, who shared ideas and collaborated despite all the difficulties the pandemic presented.
